The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that on average, falls at construction sites kill between 150 and 200 workers and injure more than 100,000 every year. New York law provides special protection for construction workers who work at elevated heights because of the risk involved.
As a former New York State professional engineer, I have hands-on experience working on scaffolding, ladders, and man lifts at construction sites. I understand that the accidents are severe, often causing serious head and back injury or even death. My name is David DeToffol and I represent construction workers in New York City and the surrounding area. Call me at 212-962-2220 to schedule a free consultation.
OSHA regulations require that construction workers at a height of six feet or more (four feet or more for general industry workers) be protected from falls. Still, workers are all too often injured by falls from scaffolding and ladder collapses.
Scaffolding collapses consistently appear on the list of the most common construction site accidents. Scaffold-related deaths make up a significant percentage of construction site fatalities. In addition to scaffolding collapses, workers are at risk of falling off of the scaffold and coming into contact with power lines.
Also, if ladders are not safely positioned, you are at risk for a fall. Ladders can slip from their supports, and it is very easy to lose your balance while getting on or off an unstable ladder. Falls from a ladder collapse can cause everything from minor sprains to disability or death.
I founded DeToffol & Associates to protect the rights of workers and their families. If you were injured by a scaffolding collapse or other fall, hire a lawyer who understands your needs. Please call 212-962-2220 or send an e-mail today.
